Tarte has really outdone themselves with The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity, sold exclusively at Sephora. I really LOVE this set.
This set is priced at $52, and is a really incredible value. It includes:
- 24 eyeshadows
- 2 brand new shades of Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush
- Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder in Rose
- Mineral powder bronzer in Park Avenue Princess
- Deluxe samples of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara and multiplEYE primer
I’m going to start with the packaging on this one because its rediculously awesome, sophisticated, and glamourous. The Starlet Vanity is encased in beveled mirrors with a tiny Tarte cutout on the top. There are two pull-out drawers with sparkly faceted knobs for handles. This set would look beautiful atop anyone’s vanity or dresser. The interior is lined with signature Tarte purple fabric, and once the makeup is depleted, this packaging can be repurposed as a very stylish box for jewelry or other keepsakes.
Tarte products are all natural, including their eyeshadows, so that is something you need to keep in mind with this product. For the most part, I like Tarte eyeshadows, but given the fact that they are all made with different natural ingredients, they will all have different textures and consistencies. Furthermore, the colors in this palette are all very wearable but none are super bright or bold, if that is what you are into or what you are looking for more of. What this set does have a lot of is metallics. I have always loved metallic shades but they happen to be on trend this Fall, so if you are wanting to beef up your collection of metallic, highly shimmery shades, this is a great purchase for that.
Here are some close up shots of each of the eyeshadows. I also have a video posted where I talk about each of the shades in detail.
Superstar, Talent, V.I.P., and Toast are some of my favorites. Those shades are luxe, velvety, and highly metallic.
The 5 matte shades are a nice inclusion. Most other brands include few if any matte shades in their value sets so I am always pleased to see Tarte include so many. I always like Tarte mattes. They are finely milled and very blendable. I would have preferred if they included some darker matte shades though because most of these are too light to show up on fair colored skin.
The only shade with noticeable glitter is Virtuoso and the glitter is fine and not so numerous as to fall out all over your face like Urban Decay’s glittery shades. While I love shimmer (and there are plenty highly shimmery shades here), I hate glittery eyeshadow and am very pleased with the lack of chunky glitter in this collection.
Popular is really the only shade I’m disappointed with. The quality of that one is just not there, it feels chunky and chalky.
Mascara and Primer
Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara is wonderful. It is volumizing, lengthening and non-clumping. The brush separates lashes well, and the mascara lasts all day. However, I am not at all a fan of the primer. I’ve only used it once but when I did (in conjunction with the included mascara), my lashes looked clumpy and short. Maybe I’m applying it, who knows.
The Bottom Drawer
Amazonian Clay 12-Hour blush
I LOVE these two shades. They are completely new shades and not available for purchase individually at the moment. I have 4 other shades of Amazonian Clay 12 hour blush and I love all of them. These two shades are so pretty. Glory is a shimmering peach that I think looks fantastic with warm, earthy, and brown shades. Starlet is a shimmering rose color that looks fantastic with blacks, grays, silvers, blues and other cool shades.
If you have never used Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush before, I should tell you, it is probably the best powdered blush out there. The colors are gorgeous, and they last forever. They are highly pigmented but even the darkest, most vivid, shades can look good on the palest skin as long as they are applied with a light touch. They can, of course, be built up for more color and look nice on any skin tone. If I could, I would have every color of 12-hour blush Tarte makes, but at $25 a pop, that’s a bit unrealistic. Which is why I love that this kit comes with two of these brilliant blushes for me to try. The amount of product you get here is less than when bought standalone, but the size is still generous and will last a good while.
Mineral Powder Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess
I am very much a fan of this bronzer. I have very fair skin and I was worried it might be too dark but it actually looks very nice when used under the cheekbones for contouring. The color is very nice and it blends like a dream.
Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder in Rose
While I do find this to be a pretty color, it’s a little bit too dark for me to use as a highlighter. I have their Shimmering Powder in Champagne which is a very light gold toned highlighter which works better for my skin tone. However, I think this shade will be a lovely highlighter on anyone who has any sort of tan at all.
- Great value at $52, so many beautiful, nicely coordinated shades
- Only way to get the lovely Starlet and Glory Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes at this time
- Pretty highlighter and bronzer included
- Includes a deluxe sample of a fantastic mascara
- Great gift for anyone who likes glam, metallic shades, earthy neutrals or hard to find mattes
- Beautiful packaging is reusable as a jewelry box
- No overly glittery shades
- No bright or vivid colors so this set may not be the best gift for teens who tend to like bright and/or glittery shades
- MultiplEYE primer does not work well
- Packaging will show fingerprints due to the mirror finish
Quality – 5/5
I think the majority of the eyeshadows are very nice, but just keep in mind they are made with natural materials so they will not all have the same consistency.
Value – 5/5
Tons of colors to choose from, and beautiful high-end blushes.
Packaging – 5/5
Glamorous design, reusable and good for the environment.
Overall – 5/5
